A break.

I moved to Columbus last July. It was a hard move and one that I wasn't altogether happy with, but it was a necessary evil.

Since then, I have worked two jobs simultaneously. One as a cook at a hotel, and the other as an associate at a retail kitchen store. Sometimes there were 80 hour work weeks, and others only 30. I recently came to the conclusion that I could no longer do both. I gave up my dream of culinary genius and quit my job at the hotel. I just couldn't do both. My decision to stick with the retail job was simple. They pay me more, the hours are more desirable, and the stress is almost non-existent.

So I'm on a break. Some might say a break from reality.

I will eventually, in the next couple of months, be searching for another 9-5 job using my degree in Business Administration. But for now, I'm on a break.

So what does one do while on a break? Beats me. I have a to-do list that could kill. However, it's not a to-do list that is awful or necessary. I finally get to do the things I WANT to do. I don't know how or where to start.

My first goal (and perhaps the easiest to attain) was to learn to poach an egg. It was a success!! Thanks to a few YouTube videos, it was effortless.

I have always wanted to live within my means, so I started a rigorous budget. This is to help keep my finances in order during the transition and save for a much needed vacation in early June.

I have several things I would like to do around the house and combined them with daily chores so I don't become unorganized and lazy. I detest laziness and perhaps this is why I've had the hardest time figuring out what to do with my break.

So why start a blog? Well, I haven't quite had time to fully enjoy all that is Columbus. Especially since the majority of the time I've been here it's been cold and wet. So, I have decided to fully embrace all that this wonderful little city has to offer...and blog about it.

I hope this blog will encompass all things Columbus. Prepare to see farmers markets, festivals, restaurants, stores, and more! I'm sure there will be a monthly gallery hop post and weekly farmers market posts. I'm looking forward to it all! Of course, I'll have my own culinary adventures thrown in. Good and bad. It's hard to tell what I'll get myself into with all this extra time!
